Overview

SoluForm above and below water prefilled concrete bagwork was used to restored the structural integrity of a collapsed retaining wall at Taylor Park, St Helens, delivering the required strength and durability to prevent further failure.

Challenge

The client required an engineered solution to rectify a collapsed retaining wall affecting the riverside wall and adversely affecting the riverside footpath along the riverbed.

Due to restricted site access, the failed section of the retaining wall was dismantled using rope access techniques. A robust and environmentally responsible solution was required that would deliver essential structural reinforcement solution to repair and restore the collapsed wall.

Solution

Given the site's variable ground conditions and the importance of ensuring long term stability, SoluForm above-water concrete-filled bagwork was strategically installed and hand placed around the base and foundation repairing the collapsed wall and constructed to form a reinforced retaining wall, ensuring both the stability and durability of the new retaining structure in line with long-term performance objectives.

SoluForm underwater bagwork, featuring patented biodegradable liners, ensured no material waste was left in the watercourse.

The deployed solutions restored the structural integrity of the collapsed wall, delivering the required strength and durability to prevent further failure.

Outcome

The solution provided a durable and resilient retaining structure, successfully arresting further wall degradation while safeguarding the surrounding environment and ensuring the continued, unobstructed flow of the river.
