The 20 high mosaic 'Under the Desert Sun' at The Hampton Inn, Lake Havasu City, AZ
A new 20 foot high mosaic artwork for Lake Havasu City, Arizona, has been created by London studio Drostle Public Arts.
The new landmark mosaic depicts the local wildlife and fauna of the area depicting many endangered species and was commissioned for The Hampton Inn Hotel in the city that also boasts the Old London Bridge as its home.
Artist Gary Drostle designed the mosaic following a research trip to Lake Havasu.
The design depicts a 'Hopi' sun rising above the Mojave Mountains with the Colorado River flowing into Lake Havasu. Around these are arranged images of the flora and fauna of the area.
Commenting on the design Gary said "I wanted the mosaic to show the often shy and elusive wildlife and plants and natural beauty of the area."
The mosaic was made in Gary's London studio using over 100,000 pieces of unglazed porcelain each hand cut and fixed over many months. Once completed the mosaic was transported and installed by the Drostle Public Arts team on site.
