Context
The Stepoc® concrete shuttering system was used to create a 775m-long flood defence wall between Chelmsford Village’s recreation field and approximately 120 houses as part of a larger flood alleviation scheme.
Project detail
The scheme, which is a partnership between the Environment Agency and Chelmsford City Council, involves the "Construction of a 775m long flood defence wall of average height 1.2m incorporating seepage cut-off trench up to 7m deep from ground level.
"The flood wall is to be located to the north-west of the Chelmer Village suburb within Chancellor Park, west of the A12 and the River Chelmer. The wall is to contain two flood gates and two ramped access points. In addition to this, a 3m and 2m high mesh fence are proposed to be constructed at separate locations along the wall with associated landscaping".
