Maccaferri’s BioMac of erosion protection blankets are made of natural fibres; jute, straw, coir, sisal and are supplied in a roll.  BioMac blankets are flexible and are laid on the soil surface to provide immediate erosion protection to a newly laid soil layer, or an existing vulnerable slope.

Depending on the raw material, BioMac can be an open mesh shape or a continuous blanket where the fibres are placed between two containment layers.

With a short-term design life of up to 5 years (depending on exposure), they provide erosion protection from rain-splash and storms, preventing soil rilling and wash-off. They create a better environment for seed and vegetation establishment when compared to an unprotected slope. Over time, as the BioMac degrades, the established vegetation will continue to protect the soil slope.
