Steel bridges offer an economic solution for spans over 10m and can range up to 100m + long. Steel bridges can add to a landscape, providing a visual landmark. Each style has characteristics which make it most suitable for a particular span, location, aesthetic requirement or budget.
Steel truss bridges
- Types: Vierendeel, Warren, Pratt, Modified Pratt, and Through.
- Suitable for spans up to 100m.
Steel beam bridges
- Most suited to spans from 10-30m.
- Can be supplied in kit form if access is difficult.
- Large cambers can be achieved.
- Can be fitted with a timber fascia to give the appearance of a timber bridge.
Bespoke options
Cable stay, butterfly arch and fully enclosed railway bridges are also available.
Finishes
Steelwork can be painted, galvanised, or both, depending on the chosen structural form. Timber fascias are an option.
Applications
Steel footbridges can be adapted for use on cycleways, bridleways and for vehicle access by incorporating the relevant design codes.
