When OneGym prepared to open a new fitness facility at Consett Business Park in County Durham, adequate parking was identified as a requirement for the venue's success. The existing 31 spaces fell short of what the site demanded. The challenge was to expand and reinforce the car park quickly, cost-effectively, and to a standard capable of handling not just everyday vehicles but also the heavier traffic associated with maintenance and logistics operations.

The Challenge

OneGym required a ground reinforcement solution that could accommodate a wide variety of vehicle types - from member cars to forklift trucks and delivery lorries - without compromising on safety, accessibility, or aesthetics. The solution also needed to be installed swiftly.

The Solution: Gridforce HL40

Following assessment of the site's requirements, 1,200m² of Gridforce HL40 was selected. HL40's 6mm wall thickness provides exceptional load-bearing strength, making it well-suited to the short wheelbase turning demands of forklifts and cherry pickers, as well as the routine pressure of heavy delivery vehicles. Its ability to accommodate a stone finish also ensured the finished car park was both practical and visually appropriate for a commercial business park setting.

Installation

The project was carried out by In-Charge Construction. The team completed full ground removal, laid multiple sub-base layers, installed the Gridforce HL40 grid, and finished the surface with stone - all ahead of schedule.

The Outcome

The completed car park expanded the facility's parking provision from 31 to 121 spaces, giving OneGym Consett the capacity to welcome a large membership base from day one, as well as accommodate deliveries and maintenance vehicles without disruption.
