Context
CLD Physical Security Systems (CLD) specified a bespoke on-ground perimeter security solution to secure the HS2 East M42-M6 Link Viaduct project, including the launch of an 84m, 300-tonne steel structure.
Advanced perimeter security measures were required to protect workers, equipment and the overall site during a highly time-sensitive phase of the project.
Overview
As part of the UK’s largest infrastructure programme, the HS2 M42-M6 Link Viaduct serves as a crucial connection in the new high-speed railway network. The construction of this major viaduct required a highly-adaptable security solution that could evolve alongside the project’s process.
Given the scale and complexity of the project, a durable, flexible and quickly deployable security solution was essential to maintain site integrity and safety while ensuring that construction activity stayed on programme.
CLD’s on-ground security systems were chosen for their proven performance in high-risk construction environments, providing maximum protection against unauthorised access and external threats.
Challenge
The project took place in a logistically challenging environment, which meant that motorway junction closures were needed to facilitate the safe movement of materials and the protection of the public. With strict timelines in place to minimise disruption to road users, any delays could have resulted in costly project setbacks.
The security solution needed to prevent unauthorised access and deter security threats, be quickly deployed without compromising protection and ensure a seamless installation process with minimal disruptions.
To meet these demands, CLD provided a tailored 3.3m-high on-ground Securus anti-climb system.
All teams worked together seamlessly to ensure a smooth installation and timely project delivery.
Solution
To safeguard this dynamic and high-traffic construction site, CLD deployed its FenceSafe and ModSec Securus system, a perimeter solution designed for rapid deployment without compromising high security standards. The system’s anti-climb design provided maximum protection against unauthorised access, ensuring a secure environment for contractors and equipment.
Given the strict timeline of the project, the ability to install the solution quickly and efficiently was a must. CLD’s dedicated fleet managed the delivery, guaranteeing punctual arrival and seamless installation well ahead of schedule.
By accelerating the security deployment process, the installation was completed faster than anticipated, allowing the roads to reopen more than 26 hours earlier than originally planned. This not only minimised public disruption but also reduced project costs. This efficiency illustrated CLD’s ability to integrate security solutions without hindering critical infrastructure work.
Comment
"The success of our involvement in the M42-M6 Link Viaduct project shows our commitment to setting new benchmarks in construction security and the importance of perimeter security in environments where safety and efficiency are prioritised.
As infrastructure projects across the UK continue to evolve, CLD remains at the forefront of delivering tailored security solutions that meet the demands of even the most complex and time-sensitive developments."
