TERRAM PW1 and PW9 trackbed separators are geotextile materials made from high-tenacity, UV-stabilised virgin polypropylene fibres, designed to maintain separation between sand and ballast layers in rail trackbed construction where sub-grade soils are good. PW1 is suitable for even-sized, strong sub-grade soils, while PW9 is intended for use where sub-grade soils contain angular stone (granular particles = 14mm) to protect against damage. Both products are Network Rail approved and engineered for durability, filtration, and resistance to puncture and abrasion. Available in a range of roll widths and lengths to suit different project requirements.

  • Geotextile separator for rail trackbed construction with good sub-grade soils

  • Prevents upward movement of fine sub-grade particles and maintains layer separation

  • High strength and elongation at break for durability in demanding conditions

  • Excellent soil filtration with high permeability and low pore size

  • Randomly orientated web for isotropic properties

  • High puncture and abrasion resistance, especially in PW9 for angular stone protection

  • UV stabilised for long-term performance in all soil types

  • Network Rail approved with PADS numbers for traceability

Applications

  • Separation of ballast and sand layers in rail trackbed construction

  • Permanent way applications to prevent subgrade erosion and track misalignment

  • Projects where sub-grade soils are strong and stable

  • Sites with angular stone in sub-grade requiring additional geotextile protection

  • Network Rail infrastructure upgrades and maintenance

  • Railway station and tunnel trackbed works
