Andacrib retaining wall for Barratt Homes development - Saxon View, Nuneaton
Phi Group was approached by Barratt Homes to provide a robust and durable solution following the failure of a retaining wall system at its Saxon View site in Nuneaton.
The topography of the site meant that extensive lengths of retaining walls with substantial retained heights were required to enable effective development and maximise space.
In areas where house foundations and brickwork had been constructed prior to the previously-constructed wall collapsing, several plots needed to be removed to enable access for the new retaining walls to be built.
Due to the retained heights and proximity to plots, a maintenance-free solution that will last 120 years, designed and installed by a leading UK retaining wall specialist, was the client’s main requirement.
Solution
The Andacrib concrete crib retaining wall system was selected as it is robust, has a 120-year design life, and is quick to construct.
Phi Group designed, supplied and installed 5 Andacrib concrete crib retaining walls totalling 750m in length, retaining up to 7.90m in height, and with a 4,500m2 face area.
In addition, the company installed climb-prevention mesh, fencing and placed over 20,000m3 of backfill material.
