Overview

Colchester Borough Council, working in partnership with Breheny Civil Engineering Ltd and RG Carter Construction, set out to deliver a brand new 76-acre sports centre - including a state-of-the-art leisure centre, rugby clubhouse, numerous external sport pitch facilities, along with large-scale onsite parking to cope with the high demand.

Key requirements

The council needed to create accessible parking areas, which were fully DDA compliant.

Macadam access roads were installed, alongside 5640m2 of CORE COMMERCIAL porous pavers for the parking bays. This product was chosen to help reduce costs whilst also improving the overall aesthetic.

A green overflow car park was also required, using 3740m2 of SuDS-compliant CORE GRASS panels.

Solution

CORE COMMERCIAL and CORE GRASS ground stabilisation grid systems were chosen to complement this high-traffic sporting facility.

  • CORE COMMERCIAL porous pavers are value-engineered, yet incredibly hardwearing, with an industry-leading load bearing capability. They provide the aesthetics of a traditional gravel surface with none of the pitfalls commonly associated with them.

  • CORE GRASS panels provide strong, sustainable overflow green parking areas, which blended in with the natural surroundings perfectly.
