Overview

Solar Eye in-ground lighting is making cycle paths and walkways in The Netherlands safer, particularly in the early mornings before dawn and the dark early evenings of winter.

Context

Local governments throughout The Netherlands have been investing significantly in upgrading and building new cycle paths and walkways.

All 12 provinces are actively encouraging cyclists and walkers to exercise and commute to work and school. The Dutch own more bicycles per capita than any other country in the world. On average each person cycles 1000km per year, in about 250-300 cycle trips.
