Solar Eyes installed at Memorial Park on Reades Lane, Sonning Common have improved safety and accessibility for visitors.

Challenge

The park has long been a cherished area for recreation and remembrance, however the lack of adequate lighting presented challenges in maintaining the park’s accessibility and safety during the darker hours.

The primary challenge was the absence of sufficient lighting in the park, which hindered its usability after dusk and raised safety concerns. Traditional lighting solutions were considered, but the need for an environmentally-friendly, cost-effective and minimal maintenance option led to the exploration of solar lighting solutions.

Solution

Solar Eye solar-powered lights were selected as they are designed to provide efficient, sustainable lighting with minimal environmental impact. The decision was backed by the approval of the South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC), who recognised the potential of these lights in addressing the park’s lighting needs.

Installation was scheduled for the 1st and 2nd of February, weather permitting. The process was meticulously planned, with the installation team led by an experienced installer who had also surveyed the site.

Despite initial concerns about the lights being in storage and potentially needing a few days to charge, assurances were given that they would become operational in a short time-frame, as they are designed to charge even under less optimal conditions.
