The project

Solomons Europe required a permeable surface finish to a car park and for pedestrian access areas for a barn conversion to a wellness resort in Penrith, Cumbria. The car park would be subjected to daily traffic and occasional use by large vans. The site conditions also resulted in the need for a reduced dig installation. After considering the options available, the client decided that a plastic paver would comply with the planning requirements and offer the best solution in a reduced dig application.

Project solution

After several site meetings a proposal was put forward by Terram to offer a cost effective measure utilising Bodpave™ 85 in the car parking area. Upon review of the pedestrian access areas that had also been designed to accommodate disabled visitors, it was agreed that Bodpave™ 40 would suit the loading requirements and would also result in a cost saving for the client.

Product installed

A total of 486m² of BodPave™ 85 was installed in the main car park, providing a cost-effective, sustainable, porous drainage system, robust enough to support the weight of parked cars and to stabilise the surface layer of architectural gravel. A further 222m² was installed in the pedestrian areas to create access routes from the reception building to the luxury cabins located next to the lake.

Project feedback

Jonny Mantle of Solomons Europe commented: “The Bodpave™ was installed as per your instructions and the installation guidelines, it looks great and has surpassed all expectations, we really appreciate all of your help, advice, and support on the scheme and wouldn’t hesitate to use Bodpave™ on future schemes”.
