What is IWA14-1:2013?

IWA14-1 is an International Workshop Agreement which specifies the essential impact performance requirement for a vehicle security barrier (VSB) and a test method for rating its performance when subjected to a single impact by a test vehicle.

How to decode the IWA14-1 product rating given

Breakdown

  1. IWA14-1:2013 = the standard to which the product was tested

  2. Barrier = type of VSB

  3. V = denotes a vehicle impact (IWA141-1 only allows for type V tests)

  4. 1500 = vehicle mass in kg

  5. M1 = vehicle classification - car

  6. 48 = impact speed in km/h

  7. 90 = impact angle

  8. 0.0 = vehicle penetration distance in metres

In the above example, the product rating shows that a barrier type VSB was impacted by a Vehicle (V) of an M1 Class (Car) with a mass of 1500kg. The vehicle was travelling at 48km/h and impacted the barrier at an angle of 90 degrees and penetrated 0.0m past the VSB datum point after impact.
