Headwalls provide much-needed protection to drainage pipes and outlets discharging water into rivers, swales, ponds and ditches. A suitable headwall will protect the area surrounding the culvert from erosion whilst retaining the embankment. As a result, the efficiency and longevity of the culvert is increased.
Rootlok headwalls offer an effective green alternative to pre-cast concrete and other in-situ headwall structures. They are adaptable to different types of pipe builds with the product being so flexible, allowing it to match the contours around a headwall. It is effective as a standard, winged or angled headwall, and can also incorporate other materials to provide scour protection such as gabion mattresses and rip rap.
Rootlok offers many of the advantages of a hard-engineered system yet also allows a natural vegetated finish to be achieved that blends with the local landscape. The system is fast and easy to install and doesn't require any large equipment. Headwalls can be designed to suit individual applications, as well as having the ability to tie into other applications on the headwall such as concrete surrounds, trash screens, grills and flap values.
Rootlok system
A green solution with high performance levels.
Water moves and filters through the system rather than being redirected.
The system vegetates – roots grow within the structure to provide further structural support.
Long-term, permanent solution – the vegetation protects the structure from UV degradation and the effects of harsh weather.
Enhances the natural environment – creates natural habitats providing real biodiversity gains.
Saves time and reduces costs – walls are installed very quickly with minimal labour and equipment.
Can be used in restricted spaces – no large equipment required.
Withstands differential settlement.
Interlocking plates made from recycled material and manufactured in the UK.
Helps to reduce carbon footprint.
120-year design life.
