The-place academy is being constructed to replace the existing 50+ year old facility. The new school comprises a three-storey teaching block and two-storey sports hall.
Challenge
To provide a ground improvement solution through variable glacial soils to accommodate relatively high line loadings of up to 550kN.m for the retaining walls, while offering the greenest feasible foundation solution in support of the government’s energy consumption and net zero targets.
Solution
Vibro stone columns were selected to achieve a bearing capacity of up to 150kN/m2 and facilitate the construction of shallow foundations and ground-bearing floor slabs and swimming pools.
