Hornbeck supplied signage and wayfinding for the 84-hectare Eastbrookend Country Park. Along with The Chase Nature Reserve, Beam Valley Country Park and Beam Parklands, the sites cover over 250 hectares and form part of the Dagenham corridor in East London. Products were manufactured from reclaimed tropical timber from Woolwich Ferry Terminal

Eastbrookend Country Park is an 84-hectare oasis along with The Chase Nature Reserve, Beam Valley Country Park and Beam Parklands. Together these cover over 250 hectares and form part of the Dagenham corridor in East London providing a wide range of wildlife habitats and recreational spaces and a Discover Centre in this busy part of the city.
The land used to be a quarry for sand and gravel then landfill, leading to a selection of open grassland, woodlands, marsh and lakes. More than 200 species of birds have been recorded but there is plenty of history too from tank traps to a Roman pottery kiln.
Work undertaken
Hornbeck supplied the signage and wayfinding for this unique destination using an equally unique material – reclaimed tropical timber from Woolwich Ferry Terminal. This incredibly hardwearing wood is actually so heavy that it sinks, and working with it brings some interesting challenges. However the end result is stunning and the attractive reclaimed weathering features only serve to write the next chapter in the ongoing story of these remarkable pieces of timber.
