Context

Lochrin Bain's Combi™ SR1-rated high-security steel palisade fencing was specified for the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfill to secure vulnerable access and egress points across the estate.

The installation, which is part of the Welsh Government's £220million refurbishment of the hospital, saw Lochrin Bain working in partnership with Secured By Design license holder, Perimeter Fencing Solutions Ltd, on what was a challenging project.

Challenge

On this particular project, a complicated design criteria meant Richard Salmon, Director and Co-Owner of Perimeter Fencing Solutions had to work closely with the design team at Lochrin Bain to ensure a smooth process as each of the secure areas within the hospital ground required specialist design work, non-standard baseplate designs and a raft of gates to match the unique and patented Combi™ design.

Lochrin Bain Commercial Manager Stephen Russell, who has worked with Richard on major security upgrade projects over the years, added: "Our Combi™ system is the only A1 (SR1) Rated palisade system available which is covered by Secured By Design certification, and as such we continue to offer innovative solutions to a product the company first produced over 100 years ago. Working with partners such as Perimeter Fencing Solutions, we get to showcase a product that is more affordable than people would think given that attack tests prove that Combi™ can withstand attack delays far greater than any traditional front fix palisade design currently being produced."

Outcome

The successful outcome of the project showed how a linked up approach between specifiers, installation specialists and manufacturers can provide the best solutions to a client's security requirements.

Product

Combi™ high-security palisade fencing successfully achieves Security Rating A1 (SR1) to LPS 1175 Issue: 8. It offers many advantages over welded mesh panel systems including its capability to rake easily over uneven grounds, while having greater tolerances during installation. The Combi™ Palisade SR1 design enables architects, security consultants and contractors to specify a product that offers clients a high-security fence line at a competitive price.
