Challenge
Saracens FC Rugby Union team required a new car park to be constructed within the 3 month off-season. Within the construction schedule there was a window of just 6 weeks for the installation of a Grasscrete concrete paver system.
Phase 1
As Phase 1 of a longer term project, there were several additional requirements; the need to incorporate an aisle of EV charging points, and to provide for heavy access to Phase 2 (constructed at a later date).
With the majority of the area designated for car parking, 76mm-thick Grasscrete GC3 was selected for traffic up to 4.3 tonnes. Here, spectator movement was aided by walkways defined by gravel infill instead of topsoil and grass.
Phase 2
Access to the future Phase 2 area was achieved by a link road within the car park that was upgraded to the 150mm Grasscrete GC2 system which, with 10mm-diameter mesh reinforcement and dowelled expansion joints, enables 40-tonne vehicle loads.
With a successful car park came a successful season with Saracens going on to become Aviva Premiership Champions.
