This pedestrian area in Dublin, completed in the spring of 2018, is located in one of the city's most desirable areas with exclusive apartments, high-end retail stores and a five-star leisure complex. The three main buildings are connected by a pedestrian street, and a healthy planting scheme was a key requirement of the project.
The site featured challenging conditions that allowed for only a very constrained planting space between the foundation slab of the high rise building and the below-ground utilities running along the footpath. This left only a narrow trench in which tree roots could establish.
The GreenBlue Urban StrataCell™ product was chosen due to its high structural loading capacity and ability to adapt to constrained areas. Small cutouts in the ground slabs were provided to create the tree pits and StrataCells were used to link the tree pits together to provide high-quality rooting volume in the space available. The StrataCells were also used on the roof levels to support tree planting, giving all of the trees the best opportunity to establish successfully.
