CLD Fencing System’s Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) member Wallbank Fencing Ltd worked with SIS Pitches Middle East and, with the help of CLD, designed and supplied a bespoke sports fencing system for a world-class football training facility in Abu Dhabi.

Brief

The need for quality and adaptability was key in the specification of the sport fencing systems.

  • Requirement to separate the 8 pitches and prevent balls entering play on other pitches.
  • Strong and robust design to prevent damage to the fencing system.
  • Integral goal mouths to help reduce space in the complex.

Work undertaken

With work scheduled to start over 5000km from their Cheshire-based manufacturing plant, CLD had to get it right first time. Wallbank Fencing stepped in to the role as the ‘boots on the ground’ liaising with SIS Pitches Middle East and helping to project manage and implement the design and installation of the scheme, which included several site visits.

Utilising previous experience gained at other top-flight football club projects around the world, CLD knew the system had to be a combination of a number of fencing systems.

Products supplied

  • Dulok Sports double-wire fencing system with twin 8mm horizontal wires provides a strong fencing panel to prevent damage from impact.
  • Ball Stop Netting provides a low-cost solution to pitch demarcation that can be used to heights of 8m.
  • Lockmaster swing gates provide a secure entry and exit system to each pitch.

Outcome

Located alongside Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, the state-of-the-art ‘Soccer City’ has risen to provide world-class football training. Opened in 2018 by His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary, Abu Dhabi Sports Council; the joint project by Abu Dhabi Cricket and Abu Dhabi Sports Council provides eight new 5-a-side pitches open to the public.

The work was completed on time and on budget in March 2018 and has hosted a number of competitions, and continues to offer world-class facilities for men, women and children in the United Arab Emirates.
