Phi Group designed, supplied and installed a 5m-high x 3m-wide gabion retaining wall for The Mansfield Sand Company at its Two Oaks Quarry. Due to the restrictions of having to work around existing machinery, the gabion was built from the bottom using a long-reach excavator, and finished with work from above

Gabion retaining wall for Two Oaks Quarry site of The Mansfield Sand Company.
Challenges
Work was carried out around existing machinery and a conveyor belt, so a long-reach excavator needed to be used to build the gabion wall from the bottom, followed by work from above to finish the gabion wall.
Work undertaken
Design, supply and installation of a gabion basket retaining wall to support either side of a box ground hopper.
