Dubai Wings was commissioned by EMAAR Hospitality Group, who wanted a striking 'welcome' sculpture to stand outside Address Boulevard, a 5* hotel in Downtown Dubai.

The work was commissioned following a competitive pitch. The client appreciated the flowing organic nature of the initial design.

Ben Barrell produced a maquette - a small-scale version of the sculpture - which led to confirmation of the commission.

"The combination of height, it is over 7 metres tall, and purity of the white surface finish felt right to complement the unequalled vastness of the desert which is offset by the endless blue sky of Dubai. The desert sand is shaped by the wind as are the waves across the ocean. I hope my forms reflect these fluid natural sculptures."
