Building benches, seats, tables and chairs has been part of the WoodBlocX offering since its inception in 2001. Initially WoodBlocX developed a planter and bench combination, the idea being that those who were less able would be able to use the bench as an aide to their gardening work. Things developed dramatically, with the company working on projects nationwide, including adding seating solutions to a number of Unite Student accommodation builds, new home developments, and public gardens and spaces.

Range

  • Planters with bench seating

  • Planters for streets, parks and patios

  • Raised planters

  • Tree planters

  • Seating

  • Picnic tables and benches

With its own workshop in a large sawmill in Scotland, WoodBlocX has been able to continually develop its offering and refine its street furniture. Small details, like the end caps and buffer rings between the bench slats, have all been borne out of the notion that the company can always improve its offering.

The modular system allows WoodBlocX to develop solutions that fit into any architects plans, working with clients to develop items that fit their needs exactly. A 20-year design-life gives the peace of mind that’s needed for large-scale landscaping projects nationwide.

WoodBlocX components fit together using large plastic dowels and can be used to create strong, long-lasting structures.

Key benefits

  • Sizes to suit

  • Strong overlapped corner joints with no nails or screws

  • Simple to build

  • Pieces are lightweight - no heavy lifting

  • No special tools required

  • Made in the UK from sustainable timber

The wood is specially selected pine from sustainably managed forests. It is quarter-sawn (avoiding the centre of the tree to minimise distortion and cracking) and pressure-treated twice during the manufacturing process. The first treatment is before machining, and the second is after cutting and drilling. This ensures full penetration of the preservative through the wood and gives a service life of over 15 years guaranteed in-ground contact.

The recycled plastic dowels have a patented locking action when assembled, meaning raised beds will form one large rigid structure with many connections holding it together. WoodBlocX structures therefore require no foundations and will not crack or break with time.

Results

Creating spaces for people to live and interact in outside is a key aspect of many landscaping projects. The integration of street furniture is an ideal way to do this. It can give an area focus and a purpose, along with extending into spaces that could be at risk of abandonment.
