Background
A community audit of Tewkesbury town centre identified shortcomings in directional signage. Signs were found to be incomplete, difficult to read, and failed to promote the town's visitor attractions.
Appointment and Approach
isGroup Signs were awarded the contract to manufacture and install pedestrian wayfinding and interpretation signage across the town centre. Prior to production, isGroup surveyed and CAT scanned all proposed installation locations to confirm suitability and produce risk assessments.
The project made use of isGroup's WAY2GO augmented reality signage system, which allowed the client to visualise each sign in situ before confirming placement. CAD drawings and graphic layouts were submitted to Tewkesbury Council for review and sign-off before manufacture commenced.
Scope of Works
isGroup manufactured and installed the following:
9 WAY2GO totems in a bespoke configuration
15 WAY2GO fingerposts with vinyl graphics applied to 122 individual fingers
5 lectern replacement panels in 3mm ecodura
1 new stainless steel lectern, matched to existing lectern style
7 replacement 10mm ecodura panels for existing totem frames
30 trail markers in cast bronze with an old penny finish
Redundant and outdated signage was also removed as part of the installation programme.
Outcome
The completed wayfinding system provides residents and visitors with improved pedestrian navigation throughout Tewkesbury's historic town centre. The system incorporates walking times, "you are here" markers, and clear signposting to local points of interest, supporting both visitor experience and the broader regeneration objectives of the Heritage Action Zone initiative.
