Overview

Two secure timber-clad cycle hubs from Cyclepods, with space-saving 2-tier cycle racks and integrated lighting, were installed at Oxford Brookes University's Headington Hill Campus as part of a wider redevelopment.

The project was delivered in collaboration with Willmott Dixon and landscape architect LDA Design.

Context

The hubs form part of Oxford Brookes' ongoing Headington Hill Campus transformation, which includes two new academic buildings opening for 2025/26. Secure cycle parking was identified as a key element of the masterplan to support the University's sustainability goals and encourage active travel.

Solution

Two timber-clad cycle hubs were installed between the new buildings, providing a combined 216 spaces with EasyLift two-tier racking systems. Both structures feature Western Red Cedar cladding, powder-coated steel frames, plastisol roofing and integrated internal lighting.

  • Hub 1 — 120 spaces | 23.5 × 4.61 × 2.95m

  • Hub 2 — 96 spaces | 19.0 × 4.61 × 2.95m

Outcome

The hubs provide secure, accessible cycle parking at the heart of the campus, supporting a shift towards low-carbon commuting. Their natural timber finish and considered design ensure they complement the surrounding landscape and new buildings.
