Created by Broadbent Studio as part of the Bosworth 1485 Sculpture Trail in Market Bosworth, Chapter 5 (of 5) is entitled 'Piecing Together the Past'.

Installed at the Battlefield Centre, Ambion Hills, this is an artwork about archaeology. Clues from history are pieced together to form a story, like a jigsaw puzzle. Except there are only ever a few pieces, so there is always more than one story they could be telling. A scale model of the two-headed coin was modelled by hand in the studio, and then 3D scanned.

Fragments of metal were pieced together to form a circular object that looks like a coin. Mostly see-through, it has two different sides:

  • viewed from one side, it seems to be a coin bearing the face of Richard III

  • viewed from the other side, it seems to be a coin bearing the face of Henry VII.

The piece is interactive, very tactile and plays with light and reflection.

“This project spanned an intensive seven-month manufacturing process, involving a series of intricate and carefully coordinated steps to achieve a flawless final result.

A particularly distinctive feature of the project was the hand-painting of the jigsaw elements by artists, Stephen and Peter. Their craftsmanship ensured that the finished piece was not only technically precise but also visually captivating, and added character to the overall design.”
