Context

Theories Landscapes was contacted by Monks Risborough Church of England Primary School with a view to enhancing its outdoor trim trail equipment, with a focus on safety and longevity. Safety surfacing was also required to elevate the overall experience.

The company recommended a comprehensive approach, including sanding down the existing timber trim trail and applying a protective oil coating. This dual strategy aimed to ensure safety and also extend the life of the outdoor adventure space.

Work undertaken

Although a one-week timeframe was available for the project, Theories Landscapes completed it in just 4 days thanks to efficient and timely execution.

Communication with the site manager and staff were maintained throughout the project, and their input and feedback were used to ensure every aspect of the design and construction aligned with their expectations.

Heras fencing was used to secure the working area and prioritise safety. This strategic measure enabled the remaining playground space to remain accessible and functional, promoting uninterrupted play for the children. This thoughtful approach also meant the children could witness the transformation firsthand, generating excitement and anticipation for the enhanced play area.

Challenges

The project needed to operate within a live school environment during term time. To mitigate any disruptions to the school's daily routine, deliveries were scheduled to coincide with non-peak hours, minimising inconveniences to the school community and ensuring safety and security for all involved.

The team of DBS-checked professionals has extensive experience of working in schools. Its familiarity with the unique demands of these environments ensured a seamless and harmonious execution of the project. Great care was taken to uphold the tranquility and functionality of the school while making transformative enhancements to the play area, all while prioritising the well-being of students, staff and visitors.

Outcome

The children are enjoying exploring the revamped play area, complete with safety surfacing. As well as ensuring safety, the transformation also breathes new life into the timber trim trail, extending its longevity for years to come, provided it is regularly maintained.
