Context
Langley Design collaborated with Maris Interiors and Darling Associates to design, manufacture and install bespoke steel planters with integrated timber bench tops to create a visually striking blend of greenery and seating for the 3rd and 4th floor external terraces at The Fairfax, a modern, sustainably designed 14-storey office development in Bristol’s central business district. As part of its redevelopment, expansive external terraces were introduced to provide high-quality outdoor spaces for office workers.
Project detail
Langley Design collaborated closely with Maris Interiors to understand the unique demands of this site, successfully navigating the logistical challenges of delivering and installing steel planters and seating on the 3rd and 4th floor external terraces.
To help create a welcoming, high-quality outdoor space for office workers to relax, meet and socialise, Langley Design supplied bespoke steel planters paired with elegant hardwood timber benches, carefully tailored to align with the architect’s vision for the development.
The Malford MPL202 steel planters - custom-made from Zintec and powder-coated steel - were installed in a variety of shapes and sizes, introducing greenery into the urban landscape. Finished in RAL 7043, they complement the development’s contemporary aesthetic while offering exceptional durability in all weather conditions.
Integrated into the planter systems are beautifully-crafted Langley Benches LBN119 made from hardwood iroko, bringing warmth and sophistication to the space.
Outcome
This seamless combination of sleek industrial design and natural materials has transformed the terraces into functional, visually striking areas that encourage social interaction and support biodiversity across the site.
The bold yet practical outdoor spaces provide office workers with places to meet and relax, or connect with the natural surroundings as they shift with the seasons.
These custom-designed planters and benches provide a calming retreat from the fast-paced energy of city life - an ideal spot to pause, reflect or socialise.
Langley Design’s skill in developing tailored, site-specific solutions is clearly demonstrated in this project. The result highlights how thoughtfully integrated greenery can elevate the workplace experience and bring nature into the heart of the urban environment.
