Challenge
Wicksteed Playgrounds partnered with Wrexham County Borough Council to design and install a robust, low-maintenance play area in a small, enclosed space at Prices Lane.
The client needed a solution that would cater to children of all ages while fitting seamlessly within a small newly fenced area, with grass mats providing a safe foundation. The design also included a pathway leading up to the play area to ensure easy access for everyone in the community.
Solution
Wicksteed maximised the play value within the space, installing a variety of play equipment while ensuring the area didn’t feel overcrowded. The goal was to deliver a play experience that was durable yet inviting, with equipment that could withstand frequent use over time.
Play equipment
The play area includes a Levant multiplay unit with an inclusive ramp from Wicksteed's Universal range, along with a 3-bay swing set designed to cater to all ages and abilities. Additional elements include a 4 Saw, Rock ‘n’ Bowl and features from Fantasy Funrun to introduce a dynamic aspect.
To further challenge older children, Wicksteed added a Tropo multiplay unit and a Flymobile roundabout for more adventurous play.
The entire space is brought to life with bright, vibrant equipment themed around nature, encouraging imaginative play and exploration.
Pathway
In addition to the equipment, Wicksteed installed a new pathway leading up to the fenced play area, for accessibility and ease of use. There was an initial issue with the loose stone used for the pathway, the problem was resolved by overlaying a more suitable material, completing the task in time for the scheduled open day. The client appreciated the swift response in rectifying the issue, ensuring that the community could enjoy the new facility without delay.
Outcome
This project demonstrates Wicksteed's commitment to creating vibrant, durable play areas that cater to communities' needs while ensuring the space remains practical, safe, and visually appealing.
Testimonial
"For 10 years, the parish has worked closely with the council to bring this much-needed play area to life. The new facility has already made a significant impact, with children using it daily. We did encounter a problem with the pathway surface, but Wicksteed handled it promptly and efficiently, making sure everything was ready in time for the grand opening. The whole project has been a great success, and we couldn’t be happier with the result."
