Ustigate designed and installed a mirror pool and illuminated plaza water feature to create an appealing, animated and distinctive focal point of interest at Keel Square in Sunderland.
The reconnection of St Mary's Way and Livingstone Road allowed a highway to be turned into a significant new civic space in front of the Magistrates Court. The new area and water installations prove an easy and attractive gateway for users to move through the streets, allowing easy access between the centre of the city and the Vaux neighbourhood. The area provides opportunities for public events and gatherings at the heart of the city.

Mirror pool
The mirror pool takes the form of a boat's hull to commemorate the proud shipbuilding heritage of the Tyne and includes split weirs and 7 bubbler jet fountains that rise and fall to mimic the sea.
Plaza water feature
The plaza water feature has 55 LED-illuminated water jets. Each jet is controlled individually, enabling the client to have a variety of sequenced jet displays. The LED lighting can be changed to reflect the mood at public events. Ustigate also designed and built a PWTAG compliant recirculation system to feed the feature.
