Context
Celtic Manor achieved GEO certification on its 2010 golf course following the introduction of sustainability initiatives, including the establishment of new wildflower areas to bring food and habitat for pollinators and other insects using DLF's ColourBoost collection.
Challenge
Celtic Manor looked to improve biodiversity and create habitats for insects, birds and other fauna. Working closely with local wildlife groups it added bat boxes, bug hotels and even established resident honeybees. Recognising it could do more, it sought to introduce wildflowers to support the initiative.
Solution
Environment and Ecology Stewardship Manager, Gary Connell, consulted with Ian Barnett from DLF on the best and most suitable mixtures and locations for the project. Ian identified an area near the entrance and recommended Floral Carpet from the ColourBoost range.
Floral Carpet is one of nine ColourBoost mixtures, designed to bring maximum visual impact by incorporating both wildflower and garden flowering species. Floral carpet uses lower growing season annuals to provide rich blooms throughout the season.
Result
Celtic Manor saw a wide array of flowers which attracted honeybees, butterflies and different moth species. It also did some "seed bombs" in areas, including an embarkment around the car park, to boost presentation.
