Context

Redlynch delivered a large-scale playground redevelopment at Parade Gardens in St Helier, Jersey. As one of the island’s most prominent and heavily-used play areas, the site demanded a creative, high-impact design that would appeal to a wide range of users and stand the test of time.

A thoughtful 2-zone layout

To cater to a broad age range and provide age-appropriate challenges, the playground was divided into two distinct zones:

  • Older Children’s Zone: Designed with excitement and adventure in mind, this area features a dynamic combination of equipment, including a climbing net, a five-way swing, a standing seesaw, embankment slide and jumping disks. These elements encourage physical play, coordination and social interaction among older users.

  • Toddler Zone: At the heart of the toddler space is a fun-filled multiplay unit, supported by a hammock, springers, rope balance walks, bridges and a range of swings. The design promotes sensory exploration and imaginative play, offering an engaging experience for younger children on every visit.

Landscape-led design approach

The scheme was driven by a strong landscape-led philosophy. Natural contours, thoughtful planting, boulders and a mix of surfacing materials were incorporated to ensure the design blended seamlessly with the park’s setting. The combination of wet pour rubber, artificial grass and TigerMulch provided not only safety and durability but also visual and tactile variety underfoot.

A collaborative effort

The success of this project was underpinned by a close working relationship with a highly engaged and passionate client. Their hands-on involvement throughout the design and installation process ensured the final result truly reflected the community’s needs and aspirations.
