Context
The SKYPARK playground at Butlin's, Minehead is one of Jupiter Play's most ambitious projects. Heralded as one of the UK’s most exciting playgrounds, it is designed with inclusivity, interactivity and illumination at its core and features six zones spread across two play areas, ensuring that children of all abilities can have fun together.
Project detail
With interactive play, sensory zones, wheelchair trampolines, an inclusive seesaw, accessible swings on the UK’s longest swingline, and illumination throughout, Butlin’s SKYPARK has something for everyone.
Result
Incorporating accessibility at every stage ensures SEND and disabled children can be included, not in separate spaces but alongside other children. SKYPARK represents an ideal template for accessibility and inclusion that all play parks should seek to follow.
Butlin’s has already been able to map the advantages of SKYPARK with increased Net Promoter Score, increased rebookings, and higher spend in the adjacent café. However, this isn’t just about improving businesses.
Play is a fundamental aspect of development, of health, and of learning. Revitalising play should be a key consideration for communities and businesses alike. Butlin’s sets the standard for this and, in collaboration with Jupiter Play, shows what the future of play can look like.
Comments
“To see all the kids having so much fun on it, it’s tremendous. You can see the smiles on people’s faces, and many kids have never experienced anything like it. Seeing a playground on this scale with so many different experiences and things to do is amazing. It was one of the biggest projects that we’ve ever delivered. We’ve worked on it for a long time, and it’s great to see it come to fruition.”
