Context

The four-star Marquis Suffolk hotel in Ipswich commissioned a variant of Tills Innovations' The Specular™ bronze water bowl for its entrance. The dish-shaped bowl also features a central piece of art created by a local artist.

Project detail

Tills Innovations was contacted by Lindsey Rendall from Rendall & Wright, the interior designer who had the concept idea for this water feature, who thought The Specular™ would be the perfect design. The scale of this project required a 2m-diameter piece therefore the bowl shape was changed to a dish, complementing the central sculpture even further.

The original Specular water bowl was reimagined and scaled from 900mm to an impressive 2000mm in diameter, perfectly complementing the grandeur of the hotel's entrance. In addition to the larger scale, the brief called for the inclusion of a custom-designed central sculpture to replace the infinity flute, creating an entirely new focal point.

Water flows seamlessly from beneath a light shadow stencil, carefully designed to raise the water level just to the edge of the bowl without overflowing. The polished surface of the water beautifully reflects the central sculpture, creating an elegant, serene effect. The dynamic interplay of water, light and sculpture ensures that the feature is visually striking both by day and night.

As night falls, subtle lighting beneath the stencil illuminates the entire water feature, enhancing the sculpture and creating a welcoming, luxurious glow.

Outcome

Situated at the entrance of the hotel this bespoke water feature not only serves as an eye-catching focal point but also strengthens the hotel's sophisticated, high-end feel, offering visitors an unforgettable first impression.

It was a proud moment when the dish was filled with water and the water feature turned on. A beautiful piece and a great collaboration between Tills Innovations and James Button, who made this amazing Hop Sculpture.
