Challenge

Public Spaces was approached by the procurement team in Cleary Doyle to come up with an all-round solution to the seating elements in The Campus Cherrywood. The seating needed to be versatile and have a robust and elegant style, while adhering to strict budgets and production timelines.

Solution

Public Spaces recommended the Trave bench, designed by its partner Larus Design of Portugal, a red dot award winner on several occasions for some of its designs.

The Trave range was the ideal solution as it incorporates all the right materials, and the style that Murray & Associates was looking to achieve. Working with Larus Design, Public Spaces was able to modify the Trave to fit several difficult areas where seating was required.

Amongst those areas was a podium viewing platform / seating area. Public Spaces designed a wall-mounted version which was then modified in length and width to suit a variety of areas in the campus so that Cleary Doyle’s could incorporate even more seating in the area, not just in the courtyards and grassed areas but along the retaining walls. Where needed, backrests of varying lengths were added for extra comfort.

For the large, open eating areas, Public Spaces modified the Trave to be used as picnic tables with matching seating. This combination was an addition and, working with Murray & Associates, the company finalised the design and got production underway.

Outcome

The seating has provided local restaurants and cafes with a welcoming area for customers to sit and take in the surroundings, while proving functional and hardwearing.
