Challenge

Firfield Primary School in Derbyshire faced a critical need to refurbish its playground as the existing timber equipment had become unsafe for pupils. School business manager Annabella Neasham reached out to AMV Playground Solutions to find a durable and long-lasting replacement. The decision was made to replace the wooden trim trail with a steel alternative to ensure longevity and minimise future maintenance costs.

The playground at Firfield Primary School is situated under several large, mature trees that provide natural shade and shelter. The placement of new equipment had to be carefully planned to utilise this natural cover while avoiding interference with the tree roots.

Solution

Following a comprehensive site survey and detailed discussions with the school staff, AMV Playground Solutions developed a scaled layout plan and a 3D render of the proposed solution. The design received enthusiastic feedback from both staff and students.

The centrepiece of the new playground is a unique, multicoloured Trim Trail Play Unit Combo with a slide. This unit, designed and manufactured by AMV, incorporates various activities within a compact space, promoting exercise and problem-solving skills. Its minimal frame design ensures high visibility, allowing for safe supervision of the children as they play.

In addition to the main play unit, the school selected various pieces of play and gym equipment to distribute throughout the playground, maximising the playable area. The installation also included a complete resurfacing with eco-friendly mulch made from recycled rubber, providing a safe surface around climbing frames and other structures.

The vibrant powder-coated finish of the new equipment guarantees both longevity and a visually appealing play environment for years to come.
