IOTA was commissioned to design, manufacture and supply a bespoke lead-clad steel planter for outside the entrance to Cheval Old Town Chambers, a luxury apartment building in Edinburgh.
Solution
The planter design was based on one previously developed for Rosewood London hotel, and features counter-relief moulding to accent and add substance to the planter rim. The 6800 (l) x 400 (w) x 400mm (h) planter was manufactured from 3.15mm-thick lead, clad onto a structural 304-grade stainless steel subframe. The resulting double-skin construction delivers the unique aesthetic of lead, whilst relying on the superior strength and strength-to-weight ratio of steel for the planter's technical performance.
The planter was also branded by IOTA with laser-cut letter signage and the Cheval brand’s horse head logo.
