Context
In collaboration with Proludic, Brighton & Hove City Council unveiled a major £543k playground refurbishment project at Hollingdean Park play area that has revitalised the community space and introduces facilities for teens and adults and those with special needs.
Project detail
Located high above Brighton, Hollingdean Recreation Ground’s new design seamlessly incorporates the hills, sea and city centre with wet pour graphics. A 6.5m lighthouse multiplay unit and a play panel paying homage to the town’s oldest cinema are the highlights. The lighthouse and Golgoth unit provide panoramic views of the sea and ideal vantage points for children.
The revamped design addresses the previous playground’s limitations for younger children and those with special needs. It features tactile elements, play panels and accessible low-level equipment.
The Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) unit was thoughtfully designed to promote inclusivity and reduce noise pollution. It offers multiple entrances / exits and coastal-themed flooring.
The new play area is expected to attract visitors from afar, with a cableway and wheelchair-accessible embankment slide. Amphitheatre-style seating around the lighthouse unit provides a gathering spot for parents and friends.
Comments
"I loved that Proludic’s design focus has honed in on the identity of the surrounding Brighton & Hove area and embraced the dynamic city seaside vibe within this unique play space."
– Tim Bird, Area Manager
