Steintec has reduced the embodied carbon of its tuffbed 2-pack bedding mortar by almost 30%.

Already a low carbon product, tuffbed 2-pack bedding mortar has a low cement content and doesn't involve the usual high energy process of drying aggregates, while maintaining superior performance, over the requirements stated in BS 7533-101.

The embodied carbon value for tuffbed 2-pack Type 35 low carbon bedding mortar is 334.4kg CO2 per m3 compared to 432.0kg CO2 per m3 for other commonly used typical proprietary fine bedding mortars.

Through research with BRE (Building Research Establishment), Steintec made improvements in the supply chain, haulage and manufacturing to achieve the reduction in embodied carbon, down to 334.4kg CO2 per m3, a reduction of 28.7%

BRE has highlighted this significant achievement by showcasing a case study demonstrating how a proactive manufacturer can reduce embodied carbon in its products through research and development.

The verified EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is available on request from Steintec and is published by BRE.
