ASF were approached by the architect, not only with a view of using and ASF cast post for a roof terrace project, but also to develop a sufficiently robust side mounting option so there was no need to break into the sealed roof layer.

ASF took the Stowe post pattern and made a very heavy duty side mounted base profile that would take 2 x 20mm bolts allowing to to be fixed transversely to steel sections fitted onto the roof terrace by others.

The posts were cast in 420/12 ductile iron that was laboratory certified by our own metallurgy lab, certifying a product that has an ultimate yield of 42t/inch, with 12% elongation at that stage. This is a grade of iron previously specified for bomb blast protection.

The rails were thickened out to 60mm diameter and supplied double skinned at the joint sections (inside the posts) so that the whole system when installed was extremely strong and far exceeded the 3kN loading required.
