ASF was approached by the client to manufacture and supply the ASF 3000 tree grille with a load bearing calculation allowing 8t of point loading for St Peters Square in Manchester.

The loadings requirement was to facilitate the partial pass over of street cleaning vehicles weighing up to 15t.

  • Working with the site and our own structural engineers, ASF devised a top grille with sub frame and support frame that would meet the required loading standards.

  • The grilles and frames are supplied in 2 halves, designed first to fix into a concrete base laid by the civil engineers, and then fix together using heavy duty plates and security fixings.

  • The 2 part structure allows access to the tree pit at any stage in the future, even allowing a full dig out and tree replacement if necessary, without the requirement to dig up the paving.

  • The grilles also have large uplighters, which also met the 8t point loading requirement, both in themselves and in the mounting portals.

  • Grille top edges were castellated to improve aesthetics and also grip for pedestrians.

  • Grille tops and sub frames are fully welded in their halves, to ensure maximum strength.

  • Manufactured in grade 316 stainless steel and finished passivate dipped for a long lasting finish.
