Challenge

Langley Design was chosen by BAM UK & Ireland to provide tensile canopies for the Holyrood Academy project in Chard, Somerset.

As main contractor, BAM delivered the construction of the new 2-storey building in partnership with Futures for Somerset, the Local Education Partnership appointed by Somerset County Council to deliver the new accommodation block.

Designed by Grainge Architects Ltd, the building incorporates a purpose-built student / dining area, 6 classrooms, and new office space and meeting rooms. The project also includes an extensive refurbishment of the school’s existing accommodation and the modernisation of science facilities.

Solution

Langley Design recognised the need to create versatile outdoor areas that would serve multiple functions. The aim was to foster a welcoming atmosphere for both students and staff, where outdoor spaces could be used for various activities, including learning, socialising and relaxation.

The company's tensile canopy range was used to enhance outdoor spaces to accommodate a diverse range of activities, provide all-weather shading and protection from the elements.

Outcome

The shelters helped to create aesthetically-pleasing outdoor areas that promote student well-being and ensure durability and longevity of the installations for minimal maintenance.
