Lubavitch School is an Orthodox Jewish Boys primary school located on Clapton Common E5.
Active Leisure were approached by the school to solve problems within the existing dilapidated tarmac playground. There were two issues, football mad pupils, kicking a ball around, mixing with others that didn’t want to play football, and a potentially dangerous step arrangement across the whole width of the playground coupled with poor-quality tarmac generally.
The solution was to separate the football from the rest of the playground by creating a fully enclosed artificial grass surfaced pitch with roof net and create smaller play spaces around the perimeter with safe artificial grass and rubber surfacing.
The hazardous step arrangement was also replaced by a safe rubber surfaced ramp which provided added play value. The 13mm dense Curled Multi-sports grass was used with a 20mm sports shock-pad to great effect.
