Overview

IOTA was was commissioned to create an array of boldly-coloured, quadrilateral and circular planters, including timber benching, for the £10m Quality Streets public realm regeneration initiative in the heart of Doncaster.

The initiative includes a mix of traffic management, street lighting, junction improvements, active travel provision, landscaping and environmental improvements, with the objective to transform the city centre into a vibrant, desirable destination for residents and visitors alike.

Project detail

IOTA created 27 planters and 18 benching elements for the project, providing green oases, and resting / congregation points throughout the city centre.

The metalwork was specified to be finished to RAL 6018 [Yellow green] - a bold and cheerful colour, in line with the objectives of Quality Streets.

On IOTA’s advice, the material selected was 1.4003 stainless steel – a utility-grade material, with significant merit for public realm use. For all quadrilateral elements, the planters and benching were designed in a modular fashion, allowing them to be easily relocated.

IOTA planters were commissioned by Eurovia Contracting on behalf of Doncaster City Council. The essential design concept was developed by Doncaster City Council; IOTA's responsibilities covered design detailing and development, value engineering, manufacture and supply.
