Overview
The Kitchen Garden team at The Torridon, a luxury boutique hotel located in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands, was keen to provide consistently high-quality produce to the hotel’s kitchen. A large polytunnel was installed and WoodBlocX raised planters were selected to grow the edibles in the most productive and convenient way.
Challenge
The hotel has a 2.5-acre kitchen garden within its grounds which provides fresh, seasonal produce for its two restaurants.
Planting space within the large polytunnel needed to be maximised to allow the team to grow large quantities of produce.
Solution
WoodBlocX's team created two designs for four planters.
Two slim 15.9m planters with 11 planting compartments were positioned to run along each side of the polytunnel.
Two wider 13.8m planters with nine compartments were placed in the centre.
Outcome
The design makes the most of the space and ensures there is ample room for the team to move between the planters for harvesting.
Testimonial
“WoodBlocX were the perfect solution when we upgraded the beds in our 2.5 acre Kitchen Garden. The system allows us to grow a wide range of salads, fruit and vegetables in robust, low-maintenance sections that also look great for guests visiting the garden.”
– Allan Paterson, Head of Marketing, The Torridon
