isGroup was appointed by Unite Construction Ltd to manufacture bespoke external signage for Marshall’s Mill, one of the most distinctive office developments in Leeds.

Marshalls' Mill is a former flax spinning mill dating back to 1794. The building was redeveloped in the late 1990s and is now used as an office space for several companies. The offices continue to maintain much of the historic fabric of the Mill so it was essential that isGroup ensured the signage had a distinctive blend of contemporary elements while incorporating the heritage of the site.

Solution

Corten steel letters

The 'TOWER WALK' letters are made of 15mm flat cut corten steel, and this eroded bronze effect unifies nicely with the existing historic pieces that are showcased on the complex. Corten steel is perfect for low-maintenance projects because it has a protective layer of rust which develops over time. When the patina (rust) first forms it takes on a yellow colour, developing to a vibrant orange before settling as a dark red after several years of exposure.

WAY2GO totems

isGroup’s WAY2GO totems are fully customisable which allowed the signs at this Grade II listed building to be adapted from a standardised totem with a bespoke finish.

Each totem was manufactured in-house at isGroup's headquarters from aluminium, toughened glass panels and Cumbrian black honed stone with painted middle part and frame. Cog wheel patterns and a map outline were cut out from the aluminium mid-section with an engraved logo on the side panels and on the stone lower section. These components help reflect the industrial site and the history it holds as well as providing clear wayfinding information.
