Overview

Ustigate undertook the design and installation of mirror pools, rills, bubbling water jets, planting and irrigation systems at Wembley Park, an award-winning public realm improvement in London.

Project

Quintain’s 85-acre development includes the refurbishment of one of London’s most iconic music venues, Wembley Arena (now known as The OVO Arena), new hotel accommodation, the London Designer Outlet and more than 8000 new homes with the majority being built to rent. The London Designer Outlet (LDO) opened in 2013 and it has over 70 shops, restaurants / coffee shops, a 9-screen cinema, and a calendar of activities that attract approximately 7 million visitors per year.

Work undertaken

Ustigate contributed to Wembley Park by designing and installing mirror pools amongst the busy London Designer Outlet, as well as riveting rills, bubbling water jets, planting and irrigation systems in Wembley Park's residential areas.

The mirror pools are encased in high-quality natural stone and finished with polished capping stones. The water management is a sustainable recirculation system enabling one body of water to be treated and recycled, ensuring water remains clean, crisp and clear. The water feature is located in a pedestrian area, where all neighbours appreciate the reflections of their local surroundings upon the pool’s surface and the soothing acoustic sounds derived from the water spilling over the edges.

Wembley Park's residential garden scheme includes riveting rill water features, bubbling water jets and a landscaped courtyard complete with its own irrigation system.  All of the equipment to operate the water features and irrigation systems is accommodated in a subterranean plant room. Ustigate's irrigation systems hydrate efficiently, keeping plants and lawns lush, green and healthy.

Ustigate's scope of works included planting that contributed to the Mayor of London’s target to make London 50% green by 2050. In 2014 Quintain planted 7000 shrubs and 1.2km of hedging which led to Wembley Park becoming an award-winning public realm improvement.
