Context

An octagonal play tower with 3.8m curved slide and a Richter Spielgeräte Concrete Ropes Course were installed at Hornsey Park Playground in Haringey, North London, part of the larger Clarendon Gasworks Development by St William – part of the Berkeley Group. It focuses on regenerating former industrial land into the creation of a highly sustainable and low-carbon neighbourhood.

The park, designed by LDA Design, provides various new play opportunities for the local community whilst incorporating native planting and natural safety surfacing materials to make the most of the space.

Project detail

An octagonal tower built on a mound is the highlight of the play area, providing climbing and exploration through height. A 3.8m curved slide completes the tower offering a thrilling exit route back into the rest of the playground.

Hornsey Park also shaped a landmark for Timberplay, with the first Richter Spielgeräte Concrete Ropes Course installed within the UK at this project. The rope course is ideal for children of various ages to test their physical limits and provide graduated risk within play. Children can decide whether to swing within the Hammock, balance on the Coconut Rope, or use the Spider Net to climb higher, and if they cannot achieve it the first time, they can come back again and again as they develop to move higher up the course.

A Street Acrobat completes the playground, a perfect spot for hiding and exploring openings. It is the ideal piece of playground equipment for imaginative role-playing games whilst offering a physical challenge for younger children in the form of a Climbing Trunk, Connecting Bridge Element and Bent Fireman’s Pole.
