Summary
Bailey Streetscene supplled a substantial street furniture package to a new collection of leafy and walkable neighbourhoods, situated north of Houghton Regis.
Context
Linmere is a well-connected new community surrounded by 90 acres of open green space and landscaped parks, offering the best in town and country living. The area will eventually consist of 5,150 homes, as well as schools, shops, and community facilities.
Requirement
Linmere is designed to embrace and enhance the natural environment by allowing nature and biodiversity to thrive. It also aims to improve the physical and emotional health and well-being of the community.
A tailored and consistent approach was required to find a range of products that offered a natural and durable finish suited to the green spaces, the welcome centres and housing.
Solution
Bailey Streetscene was the first choice for contractors Ground Control thanks to its eclectic and adaptable street furniture offering. For a project of such scale, being a one-stop shop for all the external furnishings was a huge benefit for the contractors.
Site-wide hardwood elements
The Greengate seats, Shafton Benches, and Curved Hyde Benches give uniformed slatted seating across the site. All units are powdered coated to Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 and clad with durable Hardwood timber which carries the bespoke ‘LINMERE’ branding.
The Urbanis Quadrant Litter Bin with its classic minimal cuboid shape clad in FSC timbers sustains the high-quality and reliable finish.
Furnishing the central hub
Set adjacent to landscaped grounds, The Farmstead consists of three barns arranged around a central courtyard and a nature-inspired children’s adventure playground. The premises offers a space for events, activities, workshops and gatherings for the local community.
At this cultural hub and cafe, a number of large solid Ekki timber benches have been supplied by Bailey Streetscene. Ekki is an extremely hard and heavy-density wood that is commonly used in civil and marine projects - it is sometimes referred to as Red Ironwood, due to its strength and its distinctive red colour. The simple design complements the surrounding timber-clad buildings.
Ascot litter bins and bespoke cycle stands have been placed at the hub. The cycle stands feature a simple square powder-coated steel frame with attached ‘LINMERE’ branded timber, offering cycle parking for visitors whilst maintaining the natural aesthetic of the space.
As a final addition, the space has been dotted with pyramid hardwood timber bollards all featuring the familiar branding.
Benefits
The inclusion of well-considered and high-quality external furniture elements supplied by Bailey Streetscene encourages local residents to spend more time outside and meet this goal.
